AMETEK Prestolite Power debuts breakthrough for accurate measuring of undercharged motive batteries

AMETEK Prestolite Power introduced the TruBID lift truck battery charging system, the first of its kind to answer the motive battery industry’s biggest problem – how to accurately measure an undercharged battery so it can be properly recharged.

Making its debut at ProMat 2015 in Chicago, TruBID is considered by industry experts an engineering application breakthrough since it finally solves an age-old problem of uncertainty in getting batteries recharged to their maximum capacity.

What makes the new TruBID charging system different?   According to Jim Lichtenberg, Business Manager for AMETEK Prestolite Power, “TruBID is able to accurately measure the specific gravity of the electrolyte in the battery, the only truly accurate way to determine the state of charge of any battery and ensuring a full recharge every time.”

He added that the new charging system, by reporting an accurate measurement of undercharge,  minimizes sulfation, the damage caused when large crystalline deposits  build in the undercharged battery,  reducing battery life, capacity and its ability to accept a charge.

To find a solution, AMETEK Prestolite Power did not have to go outside of its own “backyard” of company resources.

“Instead, we combined our current inventory of materials with our electronics experts and battery chemists to develop a solution that is cost-effective, easy to manufacture and commercially viable,” said Matt Bridge, the company’s Director of Engineering.    “So far, we are the only company to develop a charging system that can quickly and with pinpoint accuracy determine the level of charge needed for any undercharged battery.”

“TruBID is designed to prevent frequent motive battery charging, minimize costly battery replacements and take manufacturing and warehousing operations to a new level of efficiency,” Lichtenberg said. “When you consider how long the undercharged battery problem has existed, this is truly an industry breakthrough.”
