PA Turnpike Commission wins prestigious 2019 President’s Award from International Transportation Association

Today during its 87th Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) announced it has awarded the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission the prestigious 2019 President’s Award for Toll Excellence. IBTTA is the worldwide association representing toll facility owners and operators and the businesses that serve them. The President’s Award for Toll Excellence is the top honor the international transportation association gives out each year.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission was named the winner of the 2019 President’s Award for Toll Excellence for the development of a suite of web based applications, “Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review” allowing duty officers to respond proactively to situations as they arise in order to maintain traffic flow and more effectively monitor driver’s travel times across the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

PTC is one of six tolling agencies recognized earlier this year as a Toll Excellence Award winner. The President’s Award for Toll Excellence is selected from this group of previous awardees as the “winner among winners.”

“We are thrilled to award the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission the prestigious 2019 President’s Award for Toll Excellence for its embrace of new technologies,” said Patrick Jones, Executive Director and CEO of IBTTA. “Its innovative ideas and approach have resulted in faster response times, increased traffic flow and safer trips for drivers. We congratulate them for being a leader in the transportation industry.”

“The PA Turnpike certainly appreciates this acknowledgement and honor of receiving the President’s Award from IBTTA and our industry partners. Our key guiding principles at the PA Turnpike include safety, innovation and customer service, and this suite of apps is remarkable because it envelopes them all,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. “I am extremely pleased how our team collaborated on these solutions — which will help improve situational awareness and enhance safety for our contracted responders, maintenance employees and customers.”
