New panel mount LED Indicators expand LEDtronics markets

LEDtronics has released a series of indicator lamps geared to harsh environments where durability and accurate light reading are vital, if not life-dependent. The new line of panel mount LED indicators is the first to be IP66 rated for the Torrance, Calif. LED manufacturer, one of the few remaining in the United States.

Offering negligible heat generation and sunlight-visible LED light colors, the PT503B series of energy-saving panel indicators is expected to have high demand by such industries as defense and aerospace, utilities, industrial automation, robotics and automotive. Applications for the new panel indicator mirror those of others in LEDtronics’ catalog, including industrial panels for power plants and other environments, pilot lights for machines and instruments, and automotive indicators in such vehicles as tractors and trailers.

Able to operate in extreme conditions, the next-generation line also opens potential new markets for LEDtronics, which is already a leader in LED panel indicators. Handheld instruments used in high-moisture environments is one example.

Since LEDtronics introduced its first panel indicators in 1984, the company has prided itself on such innovations as a tremendous increase in brightness, richness in color, and lower power usage due to improved LED chip efficiency.

“We pride ourselves on being the company that can solve just about any LED lighting need,” said Pervaiz Lodhie, LEDtronics president and founder. “With this new product, now we have a solution for harsh settings that require the light to be IP66 rated.”

A rating of IP66 means that the product is fully protected against dust and solid objects in addition to being protected against powerful water jets projected by a nozzle from any direction. Without divulging the name, LEDtronics said the first customer for its new product is a broadband network technology company.

The new panel indicators are LEDtronics’ first to feature male tab terminal connectors for easier installation. Typically, this provides sharper, faster and higher-intensity illumination and better visibility than standard lamps.

With a low power draw of only 0.1 watts, the PT503B series of direct incandescent-replacement LED panel indicators offers a 90 percent reduction in power consumption compared to incandescent counterparts.

The lamps feature a flush-flat, tinted, polycarbonate plastic lens that resists impact, provides an optimal viewing angle of 60 degrees and maximizes light dispersion. They are enclosed in low- profile, threaded black PA66 nylon housing with black bezel, and fit 8mm (0.316-inch) mounting hole diameter for panels 0.5mm to 8.0mm thick.

The solid-state design of the LEDtronics PT503B Series LED lamps renders them resistant to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration, frequent switching and environmental extremes. They boast a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to +75°C. In addition, they are RoHS compliant and do not include any environmentally hazardous substances.

The series is offered in a choice of voltages – 6VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 120VAC – and is available in 522nm Aqua Green, 464nm Super Blue, 629nm Super Red, 591nm Super Yellow and 8700K~11000K Cool White illumination colors.

With an average service life of 100,000-plus hours (over 10 years) – more than 30 times longer than the equivalent incandescent lamp – these LED lamps operate reliably year after year, withstanding the rigors of industrial environments.

“Savings from reduced maintenance costs and downtime, quickly makes the panel mount LED indicators a return on investment,” Lodhie said.

The PT503B series comes with an unconditional 3-year LEDtronics U.S. factory warranty, and can be specified in virtually any combination of colors and operating voltages to fit the customer’s specific configuration and voltage requirements. Other voltages and other terminations – wire leads or screw terminals – are available as options for large quantities and qualified applications for the PT503B series.
