Toyota celebrates 25 years in North America manufacturing

On October 15th over 1,500 were on hand for the 25th anniversary of Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturings (TIEM) celebration of manufacturing the Toyota lift truck in North America.  Since 1990, Columbus, Indiana has been the home of Toyota forklift manufacturing. It also celebrated the 500,000 forklift built at the plant.

The TIEM campus totals more than 1 million square feet on 126 acres. Facilities include a National Customer Center and training center, manufacturing operations and distribution centers for equipment and service parts.

As part of the company’s Vision 2020 strategic initiatives, TIEM recently announced a new $16 million expansion and building renovation. The additions are designed to enhance communication between associates, improve products and services, and provide a better experience for customers. Toyota plans to increase its new product development capability in the U.S.A. to improve support for the North American market. The 50,600 square foot addition will increase the total facility to 1.1 million square feet of manufacturing and support space.
