UniCarriers Americas Corporation (UCA) participated in the second annual National Forklift Safety Day.

UCA, which supports safe use of all lift trucks year round, was represented in Washington D.C. by James Radous III, executive vice president of sales and Mark Manninen, senior director of business and channel development. UCA joined the Industrial Truck Association (ITA) in support of the initiative to update OSHA 1969.178 to reference ANSI/ITSDF B56 2012 version, ultimately improving forklift safety practices across the country.

“During National Safety Month, we highlighted safety initiatives to promote safe practices all year long. National Forklift Safety Day falling in the middle of National Safety Month, is a great opportunity to emphasize safe forklift use and the importance of operator training,” said Radous. “At UniCarriers Americas Corporation, we are proud to deliver technology solutions that promote customer safety. We are proud of our capabilities and programs for training customers to use our equipment safely.”

In honor of National Forklift Safety Day, the company also provided free operator training and recertification courses at its two factory-owned stores, Capital Equipment and Handling, headquartered in Hartland, Wis., and New England Industrial Truck, headquartered in Woburn, Mass. Through the courses, 28 forklift operators received comprehensive training.

“The forklift training program NEIT has in place is something else, it gives customers peace of mind since the liability of having a forklift running under your roof is big,” said Inacio Góes, vice president of sales and operations at Specialty Products Resources, Inc., who is a customer at UCA’s factory-owned store, New England Industrial Truck. Góes uses NEIT for forklift operator training and took advantage of the Forklift Safety Day course. “Having our associates go to the training is a good way to keep everything in good order for the company. NEIT took care of us since day one, even though our operation is small.”
