Inmar announces program to fuel student passion for STEM – with an unconventional twist

Listen to this article

With former IBMers among its founding members, Inmar has known the value of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines since its inception more than 35 years ago. A pilot program begun by the company in 2014 has proved popular with middle- and high-school students and their teachers – and, not just those intent on pursuing careers in these fields. The program is now open to area middle and high schools.

In fact, the Inmar STEM program, with sessions titled Awesome Analytics or Math Matters is not at all about “preaching to the choir.” Rather, the program stresses the presence of these disciplines in just about any field or area of passion one intends to pursue, especially in the world these students will enter as adults. The one-day program brings students to Inmar’s LEED platinum-level certified headquarters in the Wake Forest University Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There, students speak with Inmar associates who are part of teams throughout the company – Graphic Design, Promotion Analytics, Corporate Communications, Data Science, Sales Operations and others, who share real examples of how they use science, technology, engineering and math principles in the work they do each day. Students also tour Inmar’s Innovation Lab and its building, which is a renovated RJ Reynolds Tobacco facility. The renovation enables some of industry’s most important technology innovation to occur in two tobacco buildings that sat vacant for decades.

“There are few fields today that do not require some level of proficiency in STEM disciplines,” says Inmar Chairman and CEO David Mounts, “Our schools simply cannot keep pace alone. Businesses and communities must collaborate to ensure we are training our future workers and innovators.” He adds that, “Our associates have really embraced this program and we are committed to making the investment to fuel passion among our next generation of leaders.”

Those interested in this Inmar program are invited to contact Kimi Taylor, Corporate Communications Coordinator at 336-631-7615 or kimi.taylor@inmar.com.
