Motorists can receive information, alerts, and updates about adverse traffic conditions within the Port of Long Beach through a new opt-in texting notification system.

The new Truck Alert program delivers text messages with a specific focus on serving truck drivers delivering cargo to and from the nation’s second-busiest container seaport.

“Truck Alert is designed to reduce road congestion by providing truck drivers an opportunity to improve scheduling and enhance turn-times during the unprecedented cargo surge we’re experiencing,” said Mario Cordero, Executive Director of the Port of Long Beach. “This new program will enhance our ability to move cargo quickly, safely, and efficiently through the Port.”

The Port of Long Beach has been extremely busy of late with record-high volumes of cargo.

“Providing this service to our truck drivers is another way we are strengthening every link in the supply chain,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Steven Neal. “Truck Alert will build upon our renowned customer service and strengthen our relationship with our partners in the trucking industry.”

Without using spaces or hyphenation, users can text the keyword TruckAlert (not case-sensitive) to 79516 to subscribe for notifications about road closures, crashes, and other conditions at the Port, along with a suggested detour. To be removed, subscribers can text STOP to 79516.

The Truck Alert service is free, but standard text messaging rates may apply.

The Port of Long Beach is the nation’s second-busiest seaport. With 175 shipping lines connecting Long Beach to 217 seaports, the Port handles $200 billion in trade annually, supporting more than 575,000 Southern California jobs.
