Plus One Robotics, a provider of AI vision perception software and solutions for robotic parcel handling, has announced the appointment of Martin Aalund as VP of product engineering. Aalund will be responsible for leading the company’s team of hardware and software engineers and developers, as well as managing the engineering budget. He will focus on refining existing products and developing new products and services to meet emerging customer requirements. This includes ensuring that designs are well documented, on schedule and meet quality, safety and reliability standards.

“Martin is an incredible match for Plus One”, said Shaun Edwards, chief technical officer. “We feel confident that his management skills and intense knowledge across optics, software, mechanical and electrical domains will enhance our engineering team and the value of our solutions for our customers.”

Aalund comes to Plus One with over 30 years’ robotic experience, including employment at Amazon where he was a senior engineering manager and part of the team that deployed the first industrial robots at the company.  He was also a founding member, then president/CTO of Arm Automation, which develops custom-engineered equipment and automation solutions to a variety of industries. His experience has included the development of robots, robotic cells, subsea ROVs, factory automation, metrology, mechatronics, and consumer products for multi-processor computers.

Aalund has a bachelor’s, master’s and a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He has also been an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University where he taught courses in robotics and automation for both graduate and undergraduate classes.
