A new lifting beam that enables forklifts to more efficiently carry longer loads is now in service. LGH approached Caldwell with a challenge it saw across several customers. Together, the companies created the Caldwell Telescoping Forklift Beam, now exclusively available from LGH. “We noticed a recurring challenge in the field: customers needed a way to lift and transport longer materials like rebar bundles and piping without the overhead clearance or access for cranes,” said Chris Hyatte, product manager at LGH. “Traditional forklift attachments just weren’t cutting it in terms of reach, adaptability, or safety. We saw an opportunity to create something better—an all-in-one solution that would bridge this gap and maximize on-site efficiency.” The Caldwell Telescoping Forklift Beam is designed for lifting applications on construction sites, industrial warehouses, or other environments requiring the lifting and placement of long or bulky materials. It improves the versatility of forklifts and enables lifts without the need for a crane. Designed for durability and adaptability, this innovative attachment provides a safer and more efficient way to lift and transport long, heavy loads. The beam is already in use on several customer job sites, and LGH says that the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “Customers love the versatility and how quickly they can adapt it to different lifting needs,” added Chris. “Many have commented on how it’s increased their material handling efficiency while keeping operations safe and streamlined.” Key features include: A spread range of 12 to 20 feet, with nine 1 ft increment settings 10,000 lb load capacity Low headroom profile of just 14.7 inches Dual 5-ton swivel hooks and an optional center hook Easy adjustment using removable hitch pins Balanced adjustments on both sides for enhanced safety “Caldwell has been a fantastic partner throughout this project,” concluded Chris. “From the earliest design discussions to final production, their team was responsive, innovative, and genuinely interested in solving our customers’ challenges. We worked together to prototype, test, and fine-tune the beam until it met our exacting standards—and the result speaks for itself.” Caldwell brings over 70 years of lifting equipment expertise to the table, offering a comprehensive range of solutions including jib and gantry cranes, below-the-hook attachments, slings, and tie-downs. Caldwell also partners with the RUD Group to unify sales and marketing activities in North America for RUD material handling and lifting devices within a common organization.

The motion plastics specialist igus has unveiled its first humanoid robot, Iggy Rob, designed to support industrial production, service environments, and transport tasks. The robot, offered at a market-disruptive price of approximately $54,500, presents a cost-effective entry point into humanoid robotics for companies seeking automation solutions. The introduction of Iggy Rob arrives amid forecasts estimating that up to 20 million humanoid robots could be deployed in industrial applications by 2030. While traditional humanoid systems remain prohibitively expensive for many businesses, igus aims to lower the barrier to adoption with an affordable, versatile robot powered by its own motion plastic components. “Because our environment is built by and for humans, the potential for humanoid robots is immense,” stated Jan Hennecke, Business Unit Manager for LCA/RBTX at igus. “Iggy Rob offers a practical, affordable way for companies to begin integrating robotics into their operations.” The introduction of Iggy Rob marks the culmination of years of innovation at igus in the field of Low-Cost Automation. Building on extensive experience with its own motion plastics components, igus has progressively advanced toward the realization of a humanoid robot. Key developments include the launch of the igus ReBeL cobot in 2022, a low-cost robotic arm, the igus ReBeL Hand, a low-cost humanoid hand in 2023, and the igus ReBeL Move, an autonomous mobile platform, a low-cost AMR in 2024. Each of these milestones has contributed to demonstrating what can be achieved in the humanoid robotics space through the use of igus technology, culminating in the creation of an affordable, fully integrated humanoid system. Standing approximately 1.70 meters (67 inches) tall, Iggy Rob can operate autonomously for up to eight hours on a single charge. It is equipped with two ReBeL Cobot arms, bionic hands, a LiDAR sensor, and 3D cameras for advanced object detection and navigation. These features enable smooth mobility and interaction in dynamic environments. The robot is powered by igus Robot Control software (iRC), is CE-certified, and is approved for fleet management under VDE 5050 standards. Integration with the ROS2 interface ensures compatibility with modern robotics infrastructures. Rather than using legs, Iggy Rob is built upon the proven ReBeL Move autonomous mobile robot (AMR) platform. This base features a robust three-point bearing and supports a load capacity of 50 kilograms (110 pounds) with a payload of 100 kilograms (220 pounds). This design choice aligns with the existing infrastructure of many factories and enhances stability and functionality. igus has identified various potential use cases, including service tasks at reception desks, transport roles within facilities, and canteen operations such as clearing cutlery. Internally, igus intends to deploy Iggy Rob for component placement in injection-molding machines. igus offers a “test before you invest” program to accelerate adoption and ensure suitability for diverse environments. This initiative allows companies to trial Iggy Rob on-site with support from igus experts who assess feasibility and performance in real-world applications. Should the trial prove successful, the robot can be purchased at a price significantly lower than comparable humanoid robots, which often cost two to three times more.

New quick-reference lifting how-to guide is suitable for posting OSHA statistics on back injuries are stark. One in five workplace injuries are back injuries. Every year, two million back injuries occur across the U.S., and roughly half of them – one million – are sustained in the workplace. Three-quarters of these workplace-related back injuries occur during a lifting task. Proper lifting techniques – and proper back support, like the Brass Knuckle® BKBS – are vital to prevention. Employers have a stake in promoting proper lifting, as the consequences of back injuries are costly in workers’ compensation claims, days away from work, and lost productivity. Brass Knuckle has created a quick-reference guide for safe lifting, suitable for posting around plants and other workplace buildings. Using proper lifting techniques recommended by OSHA, the poster provides practical advice on methods to reduce strain on the back during lifting. Tips include maintaining a proper stance, executing a smooth lifting motion, and avoiding common pitfalls while lifting. The lifting guide can be downloaded here: brass-knuckle-proper-lifting-guide.pdf. For extra support during proper lifting, Brass Knuckle BKBS Back Support is a comfortable and adjustable support belt that has your back. Its attached 1.5-inch elastic suspenders distribute support throughout the trunk. Abdominal support tapers to fit the body. Padding on the sides and pressure-relieving low-back support in the lumbar region help increase comfort. The rugged polyester/mesh elastic body has a durable, double hook-and-loop closure system.

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), which can navigate and perform tasks without human intervention, are rapidly incorporating GPU-powered Vision AI systems. In dynamic warehouse settings, Vision AI helps AMRs adapt and learn diverse tasks such as route optimization, load management, inventory level monitoring, and predictive maintenance. By making warehouse operations more streamlined and reliable, Vision AI-guided AMRs are contributing to improved operational efficiency and safety while reducing labor costs. Analyzing visual data in real-time takes powerful computing and equally powerful connectivity. That’s where BitFlow and its parent company, Advantech come in. BitFlow has announced that its Cyton™ and Claxon™ CoaXPress (CXP) frame grabbers are now fully compatible with Advantech’s Edge AI inference systems built on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform. The BitFlow Linux AArch64 (64-bit ARM) SDK enables seamless integration of its frame grabbers with the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Developer Kit. Together, the BitFlow and Advantech hardware form a foundation for faster, more accurate Vision AI solutions in ARMs. BitFlow CXP frame grabbers transfer camera data at rates up to 12.5GB/second over a single 75-ohm coaxial cable, or up to a staggering 50GB/second when four cables are aggregated using a quad link model. Besides data, control commands and triggers can be sent simultaneously to the camera with trigger accuracy of +/- 2 nanoseconds, along with supplying 13W Power over CXP (PoCXP) with SafePower™. Isolating power with PoCXP means cameras connected to a BitFlow frame grabber are not subjected to electrical interference from neighboring motors that drive the AMR. In addition, CXP cables can generally run up to 40 meters (131 feet), which helps system designers install cameras on the ARM in the best possible way and gets around the distance drawbacks of other protocols. With the iModule expansion PCIe slot, the Advantech AIR-030 and MIC-733-AO AI Inference System Boxes provide plug-and-play connectivity with BitFlow’s x8 PCI Express Gen 3.0 frame grabbers. As a result of this connectivity, Time to Market and associated development costs for AMR manufacturers can be significantly reduced. Like BitFlow Cyton and Claxon frame grabbers, the Advantech AI boxes have compact footprints for the space-restricted, dense interiors of AMRs. Advantech AI boxes are also ruggedly engineered to withstand wide operating temperatures, high humidity, and the heavy vibrations from constant motion in AMR operations.

Tester showcases proof of concept for company’s series of protective labels for RFID chips deployed in harsh production and supply chain environments, enabling reliable readability in electronic, automotive and industrial settings. Schreiner ProTech has developed a compact, mobile demonstration module designed to showcase the exceptional resilience of its proprietary Robust RFID-Labels technology. In designing the demonstration unit, nicknamed the “Free Fall,” Schreiner ProTech engineers sought to create a system that displayed – vividily and memorably – the resilience and persistent functionality of its Robust RFID-Labels. The result was a stress test that, while appearing simple, considers a variety of real-world applications and scenarios. At its core, the transparent unit showcases a series of “smash tests” – the gravitational equivalent of an automobile crash test – in which objects of various weights are dropped from differing heights. Crucially, the unit allows ample room to test products with a range of shapes and sizes, allowing Schreiner ProTech engineers to simulate the impact stress of real-world manufacturing, handling and supply chain scenarios. Designed at the Schreiner Competence Center Services, the demonstrator has drawn parallels to a miniature guillotine: Operating a lever activates a mechanism that causes a weight to fall on the RFID chip from a defined height. Between each test, chips are read to affirm their enduring functionality. The unit’s simplicity also offers portability: less than a meter in height and weighing roughly 10 kilograms, the demonstrator is compact enough to be displayed at trade shows, allowing a broad set of potential customers to witness first-hand how durable the Robust RFID-Labels truly are. “Our customers expect absolute reliability even under harsh conditions,” said Johannes Becker, Head of the Schreiner Competence Center LogiData. “We wanted to make this key differentiator of our Robust RFID-Labels tangible in a fun, instantly impressionable fashion.” Schreiner ProTech’s Robust RFID labels consist of an integrated RFID tag secured via the label’s special construction. This avoids potential damage to the RFID chip due to mechanical impact during the manufacturing and handling processes, or harsh environments during the shipping, warehousing or operation phases. The result is more reliable RFID chip performance from production to final use – even on difficult-to-label containers. Notably, Schreiner ProTech can offer customized label design to suit individual applications and manufacturing setups. The Robust RFID-Labels utilize protective elements designed to systematically absorb mechanical stress. Customizable to the specific mechanical stress conditions encountered by individual customers, the thin, flexible structures are suitable for use with all RFID technologies and antenna geometries. They are easily incorporated into a broad range of production scenarios.

Machine IQ telematics and other emerging technologies’ robust security features offer smarter, safer equipment protection Bobcat Company is spotlighting National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month by raising awareness of the growing issue of equipment theft in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) observes National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month in July to call attention to vehicle theft and urges owners and operators to take preventive steps to keep their vehicles and equipment safe. In April, the American Rental Association reported that equipment theft is an astonishing $100 million-a-year crisis for the equipment rental industry alone. In 2024, Neuroject reported that heavy equipment theft costs the North American construction industry between $300 million and $1 billion annually, representing one of the most significant financial burdens for construction companies. “The frequency of equipment theft has created new challenges on the job site,” said Garrett Maurer, director of digital product management at Bobcat. “The good news is that operators and construction business owners can do something about it. With Bobcat Machine IQ and similar telematics software, operators can track their machines’ current location and history, enact geofencing with custom parameters and establish machine curfews. These are great ways to reduce instances of equipment theft and be in the know about your machines anytime, anywhere.” With the Remote Engine Disable/Enable feature in Machine IQ, operators can also respond to suspected unauthorized use by remotely disabling and re-enabling the engine through the Bobcat Owner Portal or Machine IQ mobile app—enhancing control and security anytime, anywhere. While there are a variety of factors that can impact the likelihood of equipment theft – such as worksite location or lack of adequate surveillance – enhancing security measures and improving asset tracking may help deter potential thieves. Here are some important steps to take if you suspect theft of your owned or rented equipment using Machine IQ: Verify location first: Log into the Bobcat Owner Portal to confirm your machine’s location with GPS tracking. Disable engine: If unauthorized use is in progress, use Remote Engine Disable/Enable to prevent further operation and potential damage to your equipment. Contact law enforcement: File a report with local authorities and provide applicable equipment details and GPS information. Contact your dealer: Notify your local dealership partner about the theft and police report. Request their assistance with documentation if needed. Notify your insurance company: Follow standard protocols with theft claims and provide proof from your dealership if needed. Emerging technologies are supporting construction business owners and operators in their effort to improve machine security, reduce risks and protect valuable assets. National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month is a great opportunity to keep these insights top of mind.

YOKE Industrial Corp. has combined with global channel partners to stock more Grade 100 Eye Self-Locking Hooks at the point of use than ever before. YOKE supplies lifting chain fittings, swivel hoist hooks, shackles, angular contact swivels, wire rope clips, and lifting points. The Grade 100 X-025 line was launched in 2010; the Eye Self-Locking Hook is available from 1.4t to 26.5t capacity, and is used in industries such as construction, material handling, mining, mould and die, and oil and gas. The manufacturer has gradually expanded the Eye Self-Locking Hook series, covering various capacities and application scenarios, continuously upgrading products and filling in the specification range to meet market demand. The X-025 is extremely light and specifically designed for use with 6mm to 26mm Grade 100 chain slings, thus, reducing the burden on field workers and improving ease of use. Channel partners typically stock Eye Self-Locking Hooks for integration into complete sling assemblies. A self-locking hook is designed to increase safety by automatically securing the load being lifted. The locking mechanism prevents the accidental release of the load during slack conditions, reducing risk and injury. This feature adds an extra layer of protection for the operator that a standard spring latch hook does not have, as it relies purely on a manually locking spring latch. The trigger design has been recently enhanced to be more user-friendly; a simple push button opens the trigger mechanism. The operator can now avoid any potential finger or hand injuries associated with other traditional hooks when carrying out overhead lifting operations. The X-025 provides at least 25% greater working load limit (WLL) than Grade 80 products, allowing for lighter rigging and extended lifespan. While the product is proof tested to 2.5 times WLL, a certified design factor of 4:1 indicates a minimum breaking strength of four times. Other features include a patented self-locking mechanism for safety, high-visibility coating, and a wear-resistant bushing for durability. These Eye Self-Locking Hooks are also certified to EN 1677-3, ASME B30.26, and DGUV GS-OA-15-05 — delivering peace of mind and workplace safety to end users across the world. Hardware, software combination YOKE’s lifting products all include BlueSupra radio frequency identification (RFID) chips. Through the utilization of RFID, end users of lifting and other equipment can keep up with today’s rigorous requirements. By moving to paperless systems, companies can improve the accuracy of maintenance, safety checks, incident reports, and regulatory compliance, while supporting seamless information sharing. Additionally, YOKE’s complete range of lifting and rigging products are now equipped with Digital Product Passports (DPP), as the industry conforms to the European Union’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). End users can utilise a DPP throughout the product lifecycle — from production and testing to usage and even retirement — all through RFID technology and YOKE’s unique digital systems. Beyond paperless checks, wider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals are supported through traceability and accountability. Steven Hong, president at YOKE, said: “Positioning more Grade 100 Eye Self-Locking Hooks at the point of use dovetails with a wider strategy that goes beyond rigging hardware. YOKE plays a key role in accelerating product digitalisation and is essential to the success of this digital shift. We are working with channel partners to promote our product value and brand philosophy across more vertical industries and application areas — X-025 is central to that movement.” As YOKE distributors remind all end users, it is important to follow a number of guidelines when using an Eye Self-Locking Hook, such as making sure the hook is fully closed before lifting; a visual inspection is conducted before and after application; RFID is utilised to check inspection logs; and side-loading is avoided. YOKE’s Grade 100 Eye Self-Locking Hooks are made from quenched and tempered alloy steel.
