MHS Lift surprises entire staff with bonuses

Material Handling Supply pays it forward with a bonus that changed the lives of their employees

In good times it is easy to forget how important your staff is to your success. At MHS Lift they not only realize how important their workforce is but they do everything they can to pay it forward. Due to the success of the company and reduction in their taxes this year due to the recent tax reform passed, MHS Lift’s owners Brett and Andrew Levin decided to give a surprise bonus to their entire staff.

Brett Levin states, “As entrepreneurs, we are responsible for more than just running a business but for making that business successful because everyone’s livelihood is connected to it. The business keeps a roof over all our heads and food on all our tables and we don’t do it by ourselves. We depend on our staff and they depend on us. It is the only way we can show how appreciative and honored we are to work with such amazing people.”

In a video email blast sent to their 160 employees, Brett and Andrew announced their intentions on October 24. In addition, they will still be giving out end of the year bonuses.

After the Levins announced the surprise bonuses, they too were surprised at the reaction of their staff members. Unbeknownst to them, this extra financial boost made a significant impact to their business family members.
Levin explains, “Several employees cried. Many said we saved their Christmas. And the one that made the biggest impact on us all was when we heard that one of our staff members told us that she was planning to sell her computer just to take her child, who has autism, to the doctor and now she doesn’t have to that. We were amazed and humbled by their reactions and we really learned a lot from this one small gesture.”

Levin added, “The reason we decided to do the bonuses is because we had a somewhat demanding year. I mean every year businesses face challenges. This year we developed and installed a new mobile based, maintenance software system. It doesn’t sound like a big deal but the entire staff, including me, found it difficult to learn the new system while keeping up with our daily responsibilities and operating the business. Fortunately, our staff was flexible, patient and worked together to keep us up and running. Because of their fortitude and dedication we kept up with all our orders. It says a lot for the people who work with us and it was a pleasure to reward each and every one of them especially when we saw their reactions. That is the culture we built here and will continue to embrace.”
