Port of Long Beach Harbor discusses Harbor deepening

The public is invited to deliver comments at two meetings regarding the comprehensive study of a proposed plan to deepen waterways at the Port of Long Beach.

The meetings are scheduled at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, at the Port of Long Beach Administration Building, 415 W. Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. Each session is expected to take one hour. There is no visitor parking onsite at the Port Administration Building. Downtown parking information can be found here.

The Draft Integrated Feasibility Report – Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report for the Port of Long Beach Deep-Draft Navigation Study identifies and evaluates the economic benefits, costs, increased transportation efficiencies, improved navigational safety and other impacts that would result from the dredging project.

The proposed project aims to deepen channels and basins within the Port of Long Beach. Construction is preliminarily scheduled to begin in 2024 and would take 39 months to complete.

In addition to being available online, the draft report is also available for review at:

  • Port of Long Beach Administration Building, Environmental Planning Division, 7th Floor, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach
  • Billie Jean King Main Library, 200 W. Broadway, Long Beach
  • Wilmington Branch Library, 1300 N. Avalon Blvd., Wilmington
  • San Pedro Regional Branch Library, 931 Gaffey St., San Pedro

Along with comments received at the meeting, written comments can be emailed to POLB@usace.army.mil or mailed to Eduardo De Mesa, Chief of the Planning Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, ATTN: Larry Smith, 915 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90017-3849.
