Using listening to increase presence and evolve your leadership

Margaret Graziano 2024 headshot

Being present in today’s world is more difficult than ever. Everyone is constantly bombarded by emails, text messages, social media, news, advertisements, and other distractions. A lack of presence, especially in leadership, can often lead to poor communication, a lack of rapport with those around you, and volatility, uncertainty, confusion, and ambiguity in the workplace. One of the easiest ways to solve this problem is to understand and change how you listen to those around you. Most people don’t focus on or participate in listening in a way that actually makes a difference. Learning to truly listen and engage with whomever you are talking to enables connection, builds trust, and elevates flow across the board. When you strengthen your ability to listen, you become a better communicator. When you level up your ability to hear, you show up as somebody who is more open to feedback and who appreciates the contribution of what others are thinking and feeling. Upleveling your listening begins first and foremost with understanding what, how, and when you aren’t really listening. Listening from Obligation  When this happens, the listener makes little to no effort, either due to various distractions or a lack of care about what the speaker has to say. Common behaviors when listening at this level are multitasking, such as playing on your phone or scrolling through emails when someone is talking to you, tuning out/daydreaming, anticipating what you think they are going to say, and interjecting words for them. This kind of listening makes it impossible to develop rapport. This level of listening also includes pretend listening, where you are not paying attention to the speaker, however you still act as though you are listening. The listener’s brain pays attention to other things, but they maintain involvement in the conversation. Think of sitting near someone very talkative on the plane or talking on the phone with a chatty family member. You aren’t absorbing or understanding the information the speaker is sharing. Listening from the Inside  This is selective listening or downloading. At this level, you are only listening to what someone else is saying to confirm facts you already believe to be true. You are listening inside of your existing context. You parcel out information that you perceive to be uninteresting, lacking in value, or that doesn’t conform to your biases and preconceived notions. This listening level is problematic because you only hear what you want. When you listen this way, it’s all too often to brush feedback aside and/or filter it out altogether. You know you’ve been listening like this when you come out of a conversation, and everything you expected to happen happened. This type of listening is all about you. Your purpose in listening is to validate yourself and invalidate another if they disagree with you. There is no freedom; nothing new will be created from this kind of listening. Listening for New Information This level of listening is about seeking new information, new data, and new perspectives. It’s listening to learn. However, you are still listening for what’s in it for you. You’re not curious, but listening to gain knowledge or get something out of the listening. You are taking what you already think and building upon it. At this level, you are open to hearing something you haven’t heard before. You have some new data points and information that challenge your assumptions. Perhaps it exposes some new content or new reality to you. Here, you can actually walk away from the conversation with a memory of what was said and how it changed your perception. You leave the conversation thinking new things or in new ways. Listening with Curiosity and Compassion In this level of listening, you are really connecting to the other person. You’ve got an empathic, emotional connection. This is when you’re listening to soul to soul, heart to heart, and seeing the experience through another person’s eyes. You’re not only challenging your own assumptions but actually considering that the other person’s reality is valid. You get to experience that person’s experience. Most one-on-ones should be done with this empathic, emotional connection. You’re letting go of your agenda and having an open mind and heart, building trust and deepening your relationship with this person. You’re curious. This is when you are fully engaged and focused on the speaker’s words and what those words mean to you and to the speaker. Nothing distracts you from the person with whom you are speaking. They have your full and undivided attention and it is clear to them that this is so. Listening for What’s Possible This level of listening is generative. You have moved beyond any friction and are completely immersed in flow. Everybody is participating. You both are in service of something bigger than the agenda and listening with an open will. At this level, you aren’t just listening to the person but also acknowledging the future that wants to be created. This is where innovation happens. This is where the collective genius is not just tapped into but realized. This is the highest and most meaningful level of listening and is where you want to spend as much time as possible. Listening at the Highest Level Every Time We all need diverse opinions and viewpoints. When you listen from the lower levels of listening, which is not really listening at all, you miss out on so much, from critical information and feedback to a chance to develop rapport with your team, a loved one, or even a total stranger. The most effective leaders all excel at listening from the highest level. They make people feel valued, respected and understood. They are also always honing their skills and becoming better listeners. They continually work on opening their mind, heart, and will. It’s a continual process of evolution. They are present and focused on whatever or whomever is in front of them. Meaningfully listening to those around you enables you to elevate yourself as a leader, build trust

Buttigieg hails ‘America’s Green Gateway’ at groundbreaking

h Americas Green gateway image

On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and officials from across the nation attended a historic groundbreaking ceremony for “America’s Green Gateway,” the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility. This $1.567 billion endeavor will define the future of cargo movement at the Port of Long Beach. About 500 people gathered for the event celebrating the project, which will double the footprint of the existing rail yard from 82 acres to 171 acres. Pier B will be built in phases, each enhancing cargo movement, with construction scheduled for completion by 2032. The project will more than triple the Port’s capacity for on-dock rail to 4.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units per year. On-dock rail cargo is moved directly to and from marine terminals by trains, reducing local and regional road network emissions and stress. “Today, work starts on a rail network that triples cargo volume, keeps costs down, and reduces pollution – and it’s all because of the historic funding made possible by the Biden-Harris Administration,” said Buttigieg. “Through projects like America’s Green Gateway and the hundreds of other supply chain improvements we’re making across the country, we’re making our supply chains more robust and resilient in the face of potential future disruptions.” “The Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility will add 130,000 feet of new tracks, build 36 new support tracks, and more than double the number of trains leaving the Port to 17 per day,” said Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero. “These improvements will benefit the entire U.S. supply chain and get us closer to the operational and environmental transformation into a zero-emissions port.” In recognition of the facility’s importance to the future of the U.S. supply chain, the Port of Long Beach has won $643 million in grant funding from federal, state, and local transportation agencies for the project. The federal government alone has awarded $404.1 million, while the state of California has invested $228.8 million and Los Angeles County $10 million. Besides Buttigieg, members of the U.S. Congress and California Legislature, as well as officials from various California state agencies, Los Angeles County, L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, were also in attendance Thursday “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for California by modernizing the ports that power our economy, enhancing the reliability and capacity of rail operations, and creating good-paying jobs,” said U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.). “This funding is a win for our economy and our environment. The Port of Long Beach’s on-dock rail expansion project will slash emissions and reduce air pollution in near-port communities while creating a more efficient gateway into our national supply chain.” “This project is a home run for good jobs, clean air, and a strong supply chain,” said U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Long Beach. “As Mayor, we worked to electrify and green our port, and this major investment will do just that. In Congress, we have fought for this project every single day, and I’m grateful to President Biden and Secretary Buttigieg for investing in Long Beach and the region.” “This project exemplifies our work to create jobs, cut pollution, eliminate bottlenecks, and build a more dynamic supply chain – faster,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom. “California is proud to work with the Biden-Harris Administration on this and other projects that enhance our state’s supply chain while flexing our power in global trade.” “The groundbreaking of Pier B marks an important day for the future of Long Beach, signifying our dual commitment to both environmental and economic progress,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson. “This project will make our Port more economically competitive in the coming decades supporting 1 in 5 jobs in Long Beach, improve the health of residents, and create more than 1,100 quality union jobs through construction.” “The investments made by our local, state, and federal partners are key to creating this state-of-the-art rail junction, giving shippers even more reasons to choose the Port of Long Beach as their gateway of choice,” said Long Beach Harbor Commission President Bobby Olvera Jr. “This gathering today marks a historic milestone that will bring new jobs and other economic benefits to Long Beach, this state and the nation.” Buttigieg and other speakers arrived at the event in a passenger rail car transported by Pacific Harbor Line’s Progress Rail “Joule” zero-emissions switcher engine in a display of the Port of Long Beach’s industry-leading sustainability initiatives. Herky on Parade 20th Anniversary Bobblehead Series unveiled

Herky on Parade image

This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, in conjunction with the University of Iowa and Think Iowa City, unveiled 25 officially licensed, limited-edition bobbleheads commemorating the 20th anniversary of Herky on Parade. The bobbleheads are replicas of the statues that are currently on display throughout the Iowa City area featuring University of Iowa’s beloved mascot Herky the Hawk, who celebrated his 75th birthday on September 1st, 2023. The special edition bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Iowa. The series includes 25 bobbleheads replicas of the Herky on Parade statues and a Paint Your Own Herky Bobblehead that allows people to create their own unique Herky on Parade Bobblehead. The bobbleheads included in the series are 25 Years of Captain Kirk, Alumni Band Herky, Can’t Believe it’s Butter Herky, Cartoon Herky, Color Me Herky, Construction Herky, Dr. Grant Herky, Farm Strong Herky, From the Logo Herky, Game Day Herky, Golden Herky, Handcrafted Herky, Hayden Herky, Herk’s Anatomy, Herky in the Wildflowers, Herky’s Salute to Service, Iowa Prairie Proud, Just Herky, Lunch Lady Herky, Old Gold Herky, Paint Your Own Herky, Perspectives, Scout Herky, We Can Do It Iowa, Wrestler Herky, and Yoda. Standing on a rectangular, gray, stone-like base, the Herky the Hawk bobblehead has his right fist up high, “ready to charge.” Each bobblehead is individually numbered to only 2,024 and is only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store. The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in November, are $40 each, plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order. A set of all 26 is available for $1,000. Some of the proceeds benefit the University of Iowa and Think Iowa City. Twenty years after the original parade, the third edition of Herky on Parade returned in May 2024. The wildly popular cooperative effort between the University of Iowa Department of Athletics, the Cities of Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Solon, and Tiffin, Think Iowa City, and Iowa City Area Sports Commission debuted in 2004 and was re-introduced in 2014. In honor of his 75th birthday, Herky made his appearance across Johnson County with 100 new 6-foot-tall statues for all to enjoy. The number of statues was boosted from the originally planned 75 due to an influx of designs and a demand for statues from sponsors. In the largest public art project Iowa has ever produced, the Herky statues were painted by local and regional artists. They hit the streets for public display on Wednesday, May 1st. The statues will be taken down during the last week of August before FRYfest. Anyone can buy a Herky for $5,000 – although over 50 percent have already been spoken for. Statues not sold will go to auction, with proceeds going to the Iowa City and Clear Creek Amana community school districts in support of art education programs and camp costs for low-income students. “It’s hard to believe that it has been 20 years since we first ‘took to the streets’ with Herky on Parade in 2004,” Think Iowa City president Josh Schamberger said in a statement. “In 2014, Herky, the mascot, got a new makeover, which we celebrated with the rollout of Herky on Parade 2.0. I recall several of us joking about how we’d be too old to do this again on a 20th anniversary. Well, here it is ten years later, and we’re energized and excited to do it all over again. It coincides perfectly with Herky’s 75th birthday celebration.” Created by journalism instructor Dick Spencer and first drawn as a cartoon in 1948, Herky made his mascot debut at an Iowa football game in 1959. An immediate hit, Herky acquired his name in a statewide contest. John Franklin came up with the winning suggestion as a reference to Hercules. Since his first appearance, Herky has become a familiar figure at University of Iowa athletic events – home and away. He can also be seen at events throughout the Hawkeye State during the year, including the Iowa State Fair, parades, grand openings, charity events, and weddings. Herky has become a regular representative of Iowa athletics in national mascot competitions, advancing to the national finals in 2006 and 2008. “We are excited to release these very special Herky on Parade bobbleheads that are replicas of the awesome statues that can be found throughout the Iowa City area,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “Herky has been a staple at the University of Iowa for generations and is loved by Hawkeye fans, young and old. We know these bobbleheads will become collectibles that are passed down to future generations of Hawkeyes fans through the state of Iowa and beyond.”

Episode 503: Recruiting for warehouse automation

ep503 image

Today’s episode of The New Warehouse Podcast welcomes Cian Denvir, the Director of U.S. Business for Proactive Global. Proactive Global specializes in recruitment for warehouse automation and robotics, providing a unique perspective on industry trends, talent development, and the future of automation. Cian shares insights into the current dynamics of the warehouse automation market, the challenges and opportunities in recruiting talent, and how to attract the next generation of professionals to this rapidly evolving field. Navigating the Recruitment Landscape in Warehouse Automation Cian emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique dynamics of warehouse automation recruitment. “We recruit for OEMs and system integrators, robotics businesses, end users, and even venture capitalists involved in automation,” he explains. This niche approach allows them to stay in tune with industry trends and meet the diverse needs of their clients. Cian sees the warehouse automation industry as tight-knit “in the sense that everybody knows everybody,” which is why talent hops from one company to another in a culture of grabbing from competing systems. He further highlights the challenges of salary expectations in the industry. “Salaries have cooled slightly from the highs of Amazon and COVID, but they are still great,” he notes. This cooling effect has led to a mismatch between candidates’ high expectations and current market realities, making recruitment a more nuanced task. Trends and Innovations in Warehouse Automation The warehouse automation industry is experiencing significant growth, with notable trends such as elections and interest rates shaping its future. Cian believes we will see “consolidation in the market, with bigger businesses through private equity roll-ups or mergers and acquisitions.” He explains that “a lot of deferred work from 2023 into 2024” could shape up for a strong 2025. The role of software in automation is also gaining prominence. “AMRs are not becoming a commodity, but the software side is more valuable than ever,” Cian asserts. They are proving how software platforms’ reliability, scalability, and maintainability are crucial for the success of automated solutions. Attracting the Next Generation of Talent One of the critical challenges in the warehouse automation industry is attracting and retaining talent. Cian believes that visibility and hands-on experience are vital. “It’s about making sure we bring people into the organization every year to give them a flavor of what warehouse automation is,” he says. Internships and rotational programs, like the Leadership and Development Rotation (LADR) program at Fortna, are effective ways to expose new talent to various aspects of the industry. Cian also stresses the importance of collaboration between companies and universities. “It’s about ensuring that we have the right HR and talent organization to create relationships with leading universities,” he explains. These partnerships help ensure a steady pipeline of skilled professionals ready to support the industry’s growth. Key Takeaways on Recruiting for Warehouse Automation Proactive Global recruits across various sectors within warehouse automation, ensuring a holistic approach to meeting industry needs. The cooling of salary expectations and the consolidation of businesses are significant trends shaping the current market. New products must solve specific operational challenges, and the importance of software in automation solutions is growing. Visibility, hands-on experience, and strong university partnerships are essential for attracting and retaining the next generation of talent. DLM poised to promote LEEA’s #GLAD2024

GLAD 2024 logo

Dynamic Load Monitoring (UK) Ltd. (DLM), of Southampton, has revealed its plans for a ” bigger and better” Global Lifting Awareness Day (GLAD) on 18 July, as this year’s campaign transcends the industry. DLM specializes in the design, manufacture, repair, and calibration of load cells, load monitoring, and cable working equipment for the offshore, renewable energy, marine, subsea, and lifting and rigging industries. It is a member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) — the driving force behind #GLAD2024, its social media signpost. Since the turn of the year, a multidimensional campaign has been running, with LEEA members, manufacturers, and suppliers leading the sharing of material that promotes safe and high-quality load lifting worldwide. The hashtag connects social media posts, videos, articles, and in-person activity, and DLM is among the concept’s prominent backers. Martin Halford, managing director of DLM, said: “We have supported the concept since its [2020] launch; it is a campaign we’re intrinsically linked with. Every year, we have seen it get bigger and better, and more people are taking notice of lifting than ever before. It’s a snowball effect. We need initiatives like GLAD to shine a spotlight on our industry, but it’s not about basking in the limelight; it’s about raising the profile of an essential, somewhat misperceived sector, incrementally year-on-year. Lifting is essential to almost everything we construct as a human race. “This year’s campaign is doing an excellent job of targeting a wider audience, from promoting the industry to new talent, to convincing decision-makers that focusing on training, inspection, and high-quality products is imperative. It is also providing a clear, overriding message to all end users: ensuring that anyone they work with is highly competent and work-ready, and that the equipment used is of the highest quality. The message put out by LEEA, that, ‘This is a specialist industry, where high quality is a minimum requirement,’ is one that speaks to all stakeholders.” #GLAD2024 reaches end users Everything builds on established #GLAD2024 foundations of high-quality products, inspection, and training; and a legacy of LEEA’s organizational vision to eliminate accidents, injuries, and fatalities, placing further emphasis on skills and employment, which had emerged as front-running themes when the fifth GLAD drive was launched. Companies like DLM are empowered to spread these messages to the point of use in industries such as civil engineering, construction, material handling, metals, military, offshore, subsea, and renewables, to name just a few. Halford added: “To progress the industry further we have to think outside of our everyday reality; this may mean we are not working on things that make us immediately profitable. We are prominent in the offshore and subsea industry, where lifting is a key part of everyday life. We are often on vessels or talking to operators about urgent projects and how our products can make their operations safer and more efficient. “GLAD campaigning is always multifaceted in that we’re addressing people who’ve grown up with lifting equipment, and others who are totally new to it. We often say to the latter group of people that we are in the business of innovation, engineering, and safety. The products we manufacture are in all walks of life, even if you wouldn’t immediately notice them. Everything needs weighing, and engineering is all about finding solutions to overcoming force, or at least understanding forces better.” Lifting center stage Look out for new and exclusive #GLAD2024 content from DLM on 18 July, including written and video materials. Employees will redouble these efforts and join other stakeholders in sharing messages from LEEA and its organizing partners. The association recently introduced an eye-catching campaign comprising a series of posters featuring a selection of lifting’s noteworthy achievements through the ages. Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the renowned Victorian civil engineer; and Patrick Swayze holding Jennifer Grey aloft in the film, Dirty Dancing, all feature. “They’re doing a good job of getting the message across,” enthused Halford. “The visuals that we have been sent look highly professional. Once again, LEEA has done a fantastic job with video content too. And it’s working; we have seen a much larger presence online and there seems to be a real buzz around lifting. I have even had friends from outside the industry start to ask me what GLAD is all about. “On the cusp of #GLAD2024, I’m already looking forward to #GLAD2025, where we need to broaden the message further again and position the younger generation at the center of outreach campaigns.”

Bobcat Company launches $100,000 Park and Rec Makeover Contest

Bobcat Park & Rec Makeover Contest_1920X1080 logo

Bobcat Company, a global equipment, innovation, and worksite solutions brand, has launched a nationwide Bobcat Park and Rec Makeover Contest to give one community a $100,000 park makeover. Contest Kick-off To kick off the contest, Bobcat teamed up with its brand ambassador and renovation expert Chip Gaines for a baseball field makeover to inspire communities to see the potential in their local park and recreation spaces. Bobcat brought its iconic white and orange equipment and a fleet of volunteers to Gaines’ hometown of Waco, Texas, to make over a local ballfield. Gaines, the host of the hit show “Fixer Upper” and Magnolia co-founder, advocates youth sports, having played baseball growing up and during college. “I grew up playing ball at local parks, and now, my boys have too. Spending time outside and being involved in community sports is such a big part of our family’s life, which makes me thrilled to partner with Bobcat here in Waco to renovate a local ballpark as they launch their national contest,” said Gaines. “It’s projects like this that really bring a community together, today but also decades down the road.” Commitment to Community The Bobcat Park and Rec Makeover Contest is open to communities in the U.S. with a shovel-ready park and recreation project. Funds can be used to renovate or create a park and recreation space or facility based on the winning community’s needs. “Bobcat is so much more than machines; we’re a team and a brand committed to community, and we’re demonstrating that commitment by investing our time and resources to help build a stronger, better tomorrow,” said Laura Ness Owens, Bobcat vice president of global brand and marketing. Bobcat has long supported communities where its customers, dealers, and employees live and work. In 2023, Bobcat partnered with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to offer grants to create sustainable community parks and recreation areas. Bobcat continues to work with NRPA as its partner for its Park and Rec Makeover Contest and through its sponsorship of Park and Recreation Month. “At Bobcat, we’re all about building the kind of world we want to live in, and this contest is just one of the ways we’re giving back to help communities thrive,” Ness Owens explained. “Teaming up with Chip to fix up a ballpark in the Waco area is our way of encouraging people to take action in their own towns. It could be by nominating their community for a similar makeover or simply volunteering and getting involved. We want this partnership with Chip and our shared dedication to community to light a spark in others to give back and strengthen communities everywhere.” For full contest details, rules, and regulations and to enter for a chance to win, visit bobcat.com before Aug. 16, 2024. ASSP expands alliances to advance worker safety

The American Society of Safety Professionals logo

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) recently signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with three safety organizations that will expand the Society’s efforts to advance worker safety and health. The Society extended an existing alliance with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and created new strategic partnerships with the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) and the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA). The three alliances are among many joint agreements ASSP now has in place to improve the well-being of workers in all industries. “We recognize the benefits of collaboration to improve occupational safety and health practices while elevating the voice of our profession,” said ASSP President Pam Walaski, CSP, FASSP. “Together, we strive to strengthen advocacy efforts, implement programs, and create standards that reduce worker illnesses, injuries, and fatalities.” Over several years, ASSP and NIOSH have worked cooperatively on conducting and implementing workplace safety research, promoting best practices and professional development opportunities, and encouraging employers to use safety and health management systems that are the cornerstone of successful businesses. ASSP’s work with ISEA will better connect the Society to leading businesses and corporate leaders involved in the manufacturing, testing, and application of personal protective equipment and safety products. The agreement will also support the development of voluntary national consensus standards. ASSP’s work with MCAA will widen the Society’s access to safety professionals through greater involvement in MCAA’s safety and health conference – one of the longest-running construction conferences. The annual event offers training and education courses designed to improve safety practices among mechanical contractors. “Our mutual interests in improving the well-being of workers create valuable opportunities to work together,” Walaski said. “Our MOUs with a range of organizations enhance our ability to engage in more stakeholder meetings and safety education events throughout the year and expand the safety profession’s influence in optimizing organizational performance.” ASSP is the world’s oldest professional safety organization, with 35,000 members who have advanced worker well-being and the safety and health profession since the Society’s inception in 1911. ASSP provides member communities, serves as a trusted advisor, and elevates safety through workforce development.

New AI-Powered Dynamic Slotting simplifies warehouse reslotting with click of a button

AI-Powered Dynamic Slotting image

Distribution center technology provider Lucas Systems announced its next generation of Dynamic Slotting, a warehouse game changer for making in-the-moment slotting decisions thanks to the powerful use of AI. With a few button pushes on an easy-to-use interface, Lucas Systems software will intelligently sift through an abundance of warehouse data to serve up optimal slotting recommendations. The results take minutes to generate, whereas traditional slotting analysis often takes months to complete using engineering resources or consultants. Dynamic Slotting’s recommendations identify product moves with the biggest potential payback. Hundreds of parameters are taken into account, including demand seasonality, item size, SKU velocity, and costs. Its similarity detection prevents placing related items side by side to reduce picking errors. Lucas Systems, which provides software to workers in more than 400 warehouses across four continents, says its Dynamic Slotting solution replaces what is typically a cumbersome, long, and expensive process that is seldom done. Dynamic Slotting allows warehouse operators to reslot every day, keeping warehouse slotting in optimal shape. “This is a game changer for how the industry operates. Traditional slotting is fraught with challenges,” Lucas Systems CTO Scott Mullins explains. “Dynamic Slotting gives on-floor managers and supervisors the power to optimally reslot on the fly.” The powerful technology in Lucas Systems’ AI-driven Dynamic Slotting applies machine-learning algorithms to recommend which products should be moved. It also learns the spatial characteristics of a warehouse and predicts task time based on activity-level data. The model then continues to ‘learn,’ providing continuous optimization as conditions change. “It’s the type of slotting that every supervisor or manager can use,” says Mullins. “This ease-of-use means reslotting can be done more often by those on the floor, which is key to overall optimization.” Rotary Corporation, a global supplier of outdoor power equipment parts, has been partnering with Lucas Systems on its Dynamic Slotting solution. “The ability to quickly and frequently make optimal slotting decisions is extremely impactful because it contributes to optimal picking efficiencies, cost savings, and meeting our customer promises,” says Rotary Corporation COO Donald Fountain. “If we are making those decisions in an agile way – dynamically – we are gaining the most efficiencies.” Lucas Systems’ Dynamic Slotting promises a 20-40% increase in throughput because it recommends the best locations for inventory based on SKU velocity, SKU affinity, product/slot information, pick paths, and other data. Specifically, it promises: Increase of 5-20% in productivity 10-20% labor cost savings 1-5% improvement in accuracy
