Westfalia Technologies, Inc. (Westfalia), a leading manufacturer of automated parking systems, announces today that Scannapieco Development Corporation, one of the Philadelphia region’s most renowned and respected developers widely credited for introducing a whole new level of ultra-luxury residences to Philadelphia, has installed the company’s automated parking system at 500 Walnut, Philadelphia’s most luxurious condominium tower.

Opened in early 2018, 500 Walnut was the first project in the U.S. to utilize Westfalia’s new palletless parking system. The 86-space parking system seamlessly integrated with the building structure and maintained the ultra-luxury aesthetics where the residents interacted with the parking system in the two transfer areas located on the ground floor.

Tom Scannapieco, owner, Scannapieco Development Corporation, said, “We are committed to not only implementing the latest and greatest technology in all of our projects, but we are always working to identify futuristic trends and advancements to simplify the day-to-day living of our residents. We worked collaboratively with Westfalia to develop a system that met the unique specifications of our project. Westfalia’s focus on service and the expertise of its engineers made working with them on this project a pleasure and I look forward to working with them again on future projects.”

Westfalia’s palletless automated parking system uses Westfalia’s Satellite® technology that can adjust to the length of the car’s wheelbase, allowing the system to handle multiple car sizes. Once the vehicle is positioned in the transfer cabin and the driver and passengers have cleared the area, users then answer a series of questions on a touch screen, the doors are closed and the vehicle is lowered into the system where the Satellite drives under the car where the wheels are clamped, transporting the car onto the shuttle. The system includes redundancies, such as two independent shuttles, to ensure the system remains operational. Unlike pallet-supported systems, the vehicle is transported into the parking garage and positioned on a concrete deck.

Dan Labell, president, Westfalia Technologies. Inc., said, “We are thrilled to partner with Scannapieco Development Corporation to offer the next generation of our automated parking system at 500 Walnut. The team’s tedious attention to detail and level of interest to all facets of automated parking has motivated our relationship and our commitment to ensure the success of this project.”
