Steel King to unveil new protective railing safety gates at ProMat 2015

Steel King Industries is introducing protective railing safety gates as a new standard product in its line of material handling equipment that will be unveiled for the first time at ProMat 2015, March 23-26 in Chicago at McCormick Place – South. Steel King will be in booth 1531.

The gates are designed to be used in conjunction with Steel King’s Steel Guard® and Armor Guard® protective railing systems and are made of the same high-quality materials and workmanship, providing customers with added safety and convenience. “Quality and safety are of primary importance to us,” said Nick Stats, lead engineer on the project for Steel King. “OSHA estimates there are approximately 100,000 accidents each year involving powered industrial trucks. By combining quality-constructed guard rails, tested to a 13,400-pound impact rating, with similarly made gates, companies are getting the industry’s highest safety rating with the convenience of accessibility and visual continuity.”

Without gates, either breaks in the guard rails must be created, which allow people to pass through but not forklift trucks, or people are required to walk to the end of a guard rail. The standard gate size is designed for a 48-inch post center with a spring-loaded hinge that simply pushes open and closes automatically. Padding is included on the stop clip so there is no metal on metal contact when the gate closes, which also dampens the sound. The Steel Guard gate is 42-inches high with double rail construction so that it matches existing Steel Guard components. Each rail is constructed of a three-ribbed, corrugated, 11-gauge steel panel that is 14 inches high by 2.5 inches deep. The gate is attached to a four-inch square steel tube that is welded to a 10-inch square baseplate. Steel Guard guard rails and gates are heavy-duty industrial products designed for the ultimate protection.

The Armor Guard gate is a standard 42-inch triple high rail construction. Each rail is constructed of a two-ribbed, corrugated, 11-gauge steel panel that is 9¾ inches high by 2½ inches deep. The gate is attached to a three-inch square structural steel tube on an eight-inch square baseplate. Armor Guard guard rails and gates are economical, medium-duty industrial products, designed for delineating personnel walkways, separating people from lift truck traffic.

“With the additions of gates, people can pass through the guard rails without having to walk all the way around, but still have the same protection from forklifts,” said Stats. “It’s the ultimate in safety and convenience.”

The Steel Guard gate will be part of Steel King’s larger display at ProMat 2015 in which the company will be showcasing a rack structure pick module system. Steel King is also sponsoring a seminar on warehouse fire sprinkler codes and the impact on storage racks, which will be on Tuesday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. in Theater A.
