Stack loaded pallets quickly and easily with Qimarox
Qimarox introduces an automatic stacker for loaded pallets: the Prorunner mk10-PS. Thanks to its extremely compact design, based on the popular Qimarox pallet lift, this reliable and maintenance-friendly stacker is easy to integrate into virtually any material handling system. This makes stacking loaded pallets fast, simple, and very cost-efficient. Stacking loaded pallets save space in trucks and warehouses and thus contributes to a higher load factor and higher storage capacity. In addition, stacked pallets provide extra efficiency, as a forklift operator can move two or perhaps even three pallets at a time. The only condition is that the pallets must first be placed on top of each other, for which forklift trucks or manual stackers are usually used. This work requires not only extra time but also the necessary precision to prevent product damage. Qimarox’s Prorunner mk10-PS makes stacking loaded pallets faster and simpler. This automatic pallet stacker takes a loaded pallet off a pallet conveyor and lifts it up. When the next pallet is transported to the same position, the stacker lowers the first pallet again until it is on top of the second. In this way, the Prorunner mk10-PS can easily create more than sixty pallet stacks per hour. All the forklift driver has to do is remove these stacks from the conveyor and transport them to the correct destination. Extremely compact, modular design The automatic pallet stacker is based on the modular design of the Prorunner mk10, the popular Qimarox pallet lift. The 4-column construction and the lifting mechanism are completely identical. Only the pallet lift carrier has been replaced by a newly designed pallet clamp module. It has two short forks at the front and rear that can move in and out of the pallet openings. These forks lift the pallet to any desired, adjustable height so that the next pallet can be transported underneath. The great advantage of the Prorunner mk10-PS is its extremely compact footprint. The 4-column construction is placed over the conveyor instead of next to it. Because the pallet is lifted at both the front and rear, no extra space is required next to the pallet conveyor, as in solutions with long forks that lift the pallet from the side. This makes the Qimarox automatic pallet stacker easy to integrate into virtually any existing final packaging or logistics system. Proven, reliable, and cost-effective The Prorunner mk10-PS offers more advantages. Because the modular design is based on the existing pallet lift that has already been used in hundreds of operations around the world, end users are assured of a proven, reliable, maintenance-friendly, and cost-effective solution. The serially produced pallet lift is built exclusively from standard components. The robust steel construction ensures great stability despite the dynamic forces that arise during operation. Lifting is done with steel chains in a durable plastic case, which ensures silent lifting. Automatic fall protection ensures safety in all cases. All of this makes the Prorunner mk10-PS a reliable solution with a low total cost of ownership and short payback time.

Yale makes SDCE 100 list for Custom-Spec Lift Trucks at High-Density Goya Foods Facility
Yale Materials Handling Corporation announces recognition on Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s annual list of 100 top supply chain projects. Yale made the list for its work with Goya Foods, designing a custom Goya-Spec lift truck to efficiently serve the company’s high-density storage racking. To keep up with growing demand for a large, 2,700-SKU inventory, Goya built a 643,000-square-foot facility in Jersey City, New Jersey with new, taller racking and narrow aisles for higher-density warehousing. Yale and the local dealer, Barclay Brand Ferdon, developed a custom Goya-spec lift truck capable of navigating the low clearance of the high-density drive-in racking. “When we moved into this facility, the overhead guard on the standard lift truck we were using wouldn’t allow us to drive into the new, lower-clearance rack,” says John Quinones, Director of Operations for Goya Foods. “That would have forced us to use two different vehicles for putaway and retrieval. But by modifying the truck to our custom spec, we were able to eliminate that extra touch and work more efficiently.” The Goya spec truck features larger tires, no fender over the front wheels, and an overhead guard with camber on both sides – still providing protection while avoiding contact with low-clearance racks. Modifications and key features on other lift truck models included an onboard laser positioning system and camera for reach trucks and Yale’s tri-form mast on very narrow aisle models for support and visibility at a great height. The Jersey City facility moves 60,000 to 90,000 cases per night, with overnight turnaround from order receipt to shipping. The storage configuration and custom-spec Yale® lift trucks are now the standards across Goya distribution centers. The SDCE 100 is an annual list of the most innovative, effective supply chain projects. To read the full Goya Foods case study, click here.

Episode 112 – Semtech
In this episode, I spoke with Pedro Pachuca who is the Director of Wireless Products at Semtech Corporation. Semtech provides the technology that supports the IntelliPallet that was previously discussed on Episode 65 with Pallet Alliance. Pedro and I talk about what Semtech does, their LoRa technology, how the relationship with Pallet Alliance came about, and other supply chain applications they are involved in. Key Takeaways Semtech is a provider of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms for infrastructure, high-end consumer and industrial equipment. They help to drive leading technologies like mobility, data centers, and the internet of things (IoT). One of their main platforms that helps to power the IntelliPallet is their LoRa technology. The name LoRa is derived from “long-range” because the technology provides a much longer range in communication versus some other technologies. This technology requires very minimal power and no GPS for tracking purposes. Pedro discusses how LoRa enables devices and items to communicate so that they can be tracked or have data collected. Semtech continues to build on this technology and new advances are able to develop devices that use ten timeless power. Most impressive is that a device that would typically be powered for 3 months could now be powered up to 3 years. This is a huge reduction in maintenance and also the cost of replacements. If you remember from Episode 65 with Pallet Alliance they are using the LoRA technology to track pallets throughout the supply chain to help companies retrieve their custom pallets. With 1.5 billion pallets in circulation, the cost of previous tracking technologies was too high to practically use. Now, due to LoRa not using GPS, it helps to significantly reduce the cost of implementing the technology which was the perfect fit for Pallet Alliance’s IntelliPallet. The device gets put on to the pallet in an area that is unlikely to be damaged when it is being handled by machinery or in transit. During the COVID pandemic Semtech’s newest technology, LoRa Edge has been utilized to do tracing for individuals. It has the ability to read MAC addresses so it can be used to track individuals by their wireless devices. Additionally, Pedro discusses how LoRa can do temperature tracking from a distance that comes into play when dealing with individuals who may be sick. Legacy Tension Fabric Buildings feature Structural Steel Frame
Combining rigid-frame engineering with the proven benefits of tension fabric membranes, Legacy Building Solutions offers superior quality fabric structures that are fully customizable. This design concept provides a high level of flexibility for a wide array of applications and industries, including commercial and industrial warehousing, cold storage facilities, equipment and bulk material storage, and many more. Legacy fabric buildings utilize a durable rigid frame in place of the hollow-tube, open web truss “hoop” framing traditionally used for fabric structures. The strength of the structural steel frame provides several engineering advantages, most notably the ability to easily customize buildings to the exact width, length, and height required. In addition to long clear spans, the buildings have straight sidewalls that maximize the useable square footage inside the structure. The design allows for much more structural flexibility than traditional fabric structures, including the ability to add lean-tos, mezzanines, sidewall doors, and more. The structures are also engineered to provide desired overhangs or handle additional loads for items such as sprinklers and conveyors. Unlike hollow tube steel, Legacy’s solid structural steel I-beams are not vulnerable to unseen corrosion originating inside a tube. Additionally, there are multiple coating options available for all steel components, including hot-dip galvanizing, primer, and powder coat paint. Legacy buildings feature high-quality fabric roofs that eliminate the corrosion concerns associated with metal-constructed facilities. A variety of fabrics are available, including 27-ounce ExxoTec™Elite and 19-ounce ExxoTec Pro, both of which are premium PVC fabrics with superior strength and performance characteristics. The durable fabric allows natural light to permeate the structure during daytime hours, while insulation and liners can be added to meet energy codes or satisfy customer specifications. Installation is up to three times faster than with conventional buildings, and the design can be adjusted for stationary or portable applications. Sidewalls can be customized and built with any desired material — including steel, concrete, or stone — and then easily lined with fabric to prevent corrosion to the interior, or to create a seamless look for occupied buildings. Legacy steel components and fabric covers are backed by a comprehensive warranty.
